According to Christian tradition the human person reaches the fullness of its being when lives at the presence of God, as a simple and humble child, open to God’s word, "unless you become like little children, you will never enter the kingdom of heaven". (Mt 18,3). Children are able to walk and to eat, but they are unable to know where to go and what to eat. They have to learn it from their parents. They know they are not self sufficient. This is the spiritual childhood, strictly bound to a simple life.
ResponderEliminarSt. Francis is the typical example of a simple spirit, a person who lived in depth the basic attitude of the spiritual childhood. He married lady Poverty because he wanted to be a free man, especially free from the sin of craving (avidez). Sin strongly condemned in the Bible (Num c. 11; 21, 4-9; Ps.18, 18-22), but unfortunately at the base of the wild form of marketing we know in our days.
St Francis heart was full of God and of the things of God, for this reason he was able to live simplicity and poverty. "Quien a Dios tiene nada le falta. Solo Dios basta" says Teresa de Jesus.
